The Sunshine Room.
A NURTURE ROOM IN A NURTURING SCHOOL.
The Sunshine Room is a specially designed and resourced Nurture Group Class providing a safe and nurturing learning environment where each child is valued, understood and has their needs met in a smaller group setting. It is run by two highly trained and experienced members of staff who plan activities to cater for the child’s needs and interests.
The Northern Ireland Curriculum is taught. Fun learning experiences are used to teach academic subjects, language skills, maths skills and social skills. The Sunshine Room allows extra time, space and support for each child to help their growth.
Nurture Groups were first set up thirty years ago to help children who were having difficulty in responding to the demands of life in a busy classroom with lots of other children. There have been a number of studies into the effectiveness of nurture groups over the years. These have all shown positive results in attendance, attainment, behaviour and self confidence amongst the children who have attended.
Enjoying and doing well at school is an important factor for the healthy development of children. All parents want the best for their children. The Nurture Group is an ideal setting for children who can benefit from smaller class sizes, a more home like environment and more individual attention.
